What makes a usefull group meeting?

Please share your experiences as to what has been successful and well received in your own support group meetings.

So far this year we have mostly had meetings with a program. However, the meeting that we had with small discussion groups was popular and also highlighted issues for future meetings. For example, the topic of medications was frequently brought up, and the following meeting we brought in a local pharmacist who was very informative.

This week we had a presentation from a clinical nurse specialist in seniors health with VIHA. The content was excellent and the relevance was most appropriate for our group. I will see if I can get permission to post the handout material to this forum. As usually happens when we have a good presenter, our meeting went on enthusiastically for an extra 45 minutes.
